How to Escape 9 to 5

How to Escape 9 to 5

If the thought of contacting your parent’s friends to ask for a job, perfecting your elevator pitch and continually refocusing your rather thin resume, leaves you cold, perhaps you are really meant to be an entrepreneur.

If you find yourself searching for a job that will offer youautonomy, freedom, meaning, and purpose, maybe you need to start your own business.

I know you’re young, you’re broke, and you don’t feel ready but many people, perhaps as many as 80% of emerging entrepreneurs, know they want to be an entrepreneur long before they have a viable business idea. If the thought of being in business for yourself has ever crossed your mind. Now, while your future is so full of promise, now is a good time to explore your possibilities.

What are Your Choices?

You could go back to school – and worry about the debt later.

Or, you could find an unpaid internship and hope for the best.

Or, you could hoist your back pack and volunteer your way around the world, but these choices will only postpone the inevitable. Someday, sooner or later, you are going to have to figure out a way to support yourself and, if you want to hold on to your ideals of autonomy, freedom, meaning and purpose, your own business is an excellent choice.

Think About It

You are in transition: you’ve graduated, you are educated, and you have your life ahead of you.  You may feel uncertain but don’t panic, take some time to think.  If becoming an entrepreneur appeals to you, even a little, give it some thought.

You can start with a small investment in my book From Vision to Decision: A Self-Coaching Guide to Starting a New Business.  As you read the book and work your way through the online self-coaching workbook, you will be guided through a self- discovery process designed to help you define for yourself those words:autonomy, freedom, meaning, and purpose. Then, once you are clear on what you want from the life that is ahead of you, I will help you discover a business to support your ideals.

If you hope to design and build a business that will release you from corporate servitude and allow you to live a fabulous life (as defined by you – not by someone else!),I can help.  Really! Give me a call and we can talk some more.
